A man is in a serious condition in Middlemore Hospital after being found face down in the fast lane of an Auckland motorway.
Police believe the man fell from an overbridge on Saturday night.
A passenger in a taxi travelling along the stretch of road says his driver had to swerve to avoid the man.
George Andrews says he ran to help him, while the driver reversed his taxi back along the lane to slow other vehicles.
Mr Andrews says an ambulance officer who happened to be passing stopped to help move the man from the motorway.
