A marae trust board in Auckland is investigating allegations of fraud and says it will take further action if warranted.
Hoani Waititi Marae board chairperson Wairoa Arama says it was alerted to serious anomalies in the marae's accounts last September.
Initial investigations showed that one person appeared to be responsible, Mr Arama says. A forensic accountant has been engaged and the investigation is continuing.
Once all of the relevant information is collected, he says, the board will decide on any further action.
Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples, who founded the marae, says he now has nothing to do with it, having left the executive five years ago when he entered Parliament.
