The Government is investing more than $4 million in researching the treatment of Type 1 diabetes.
Research, Science and Technology Minister Wayne Mapp says the money will be invested in Living Cell Technologies New Zealand, which has conducted research using genetically pure pigs from the Auckland Islands.
The minister says the investment will support the production and clinical trials of a drug designed to balance blood glucose levels in Type 1 diabetes patients.
Mr Mapp says the investment is an example of the Government's drive to invest in research which can boost economic growth.
