Airports are on alert for a five-year-old girl who was abducted from an Auckland street on Monday.
Police say they have contacted airport authorities in case someone tries to leave the country with Cina Ma.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby says a man snatched the child from the footpath outside her North Shore home about 12.30pm.
He says the man had covered his face and drove off without saying a word to the girl's eight-year-old cousin, who saw the abduction.
Detective Senior Sergeant Libby says officers are talking to the boy and Cina Ma's parents, but have only a sketchy description.
Neighbours of the girl say they are shocked and upset by the abduction, which happened as she was playing outside her home in the suburb of Harrowglen.
Shiv Maharaj, 14, who lives opposite the Ma family, says he heard Cina's mother scream, but did not take any notice because he thought she was shouting out for the child to come inside.
About 20 officers are working on the case.
Arrest warrant over Tauranga abduction
Meanwhile, police have issued an arrest warrant for a man who they say abducted a 14-year-old Tauranga girl.
They say Mount Maunganui College student Julie Davis met Craig Howard, 41, in March.
She has been missing for 10 days.
On Sunday, police said the teenager did not want to be found and they were lying low. Now police are urging Mr Howard to end the matter quickly and hand himself in.
It is thought the pair are in the Coromandel, Waikato or Bay of Plenty, and are using a grey 1989 Subaru legacy saloon with the number plate UE4661.
