New boss for MFAT

A senior public servant and former diplomat has been appointed head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

Brook Barrington will take up the chief executive and secretary role for a five-year term, later this month.

Mr Barrington has previously worked for MFAT on foreign policy and international trade issues, including as Ambassador to Thailand.

More recently, he has been Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Defence and Deputy Chief Executive at the Ministry of Justice.
