The hot favourite Red Ruler has won the $250,000 Wellington Cup at Trentham.
The Matamata trained gelding, ridden by Mark du Plessis, came through to take the lead on the straight to finish ahead of Awesome Planet and Manonamission who dead-heated for second.
The five-year-old adds the Wellington Cup to the City of Auckland Cup it won on New Year's Day, and the weight-for-age Trentham Stakes last weekend.
