'Marriage Destroyer' attracts attention

An answering machine named "Marriage Destroyer" was the most viewed listing on Trade Me this year.

With 136,955 it pipped Dan Carter's iPhone by 6000 views.

The machine was listed in Auckland with a $1 reserve, and sold for $68.

Trade Me spokesperson Jeff Hunkin said the item was aptly named.

"Basically the seller spun a yarn about how his 'lady on the side' had left a message on his answering machine at home, his wife found it, she kicked him out along with the answer phone and he sold it on Trade Me."

Mr Hunkin said Lewis Road chocolate milk also shot to popularity on Trade Me this year with one listing attracting 40,000 views and selling for $27.47.

The milk normally retails for about $6.50.
