Pregnant woman caught drink-driving

5:25 pm on 15 December 2014

A pregnant woman with passengers in her car has been caught drink-driving in Nelson, police say.

Alcohol checks throughout the region during the weekend found more than 10 drivers over the limit.

Nelson Bays roads policing manager Jenni Richardson said the results were especially frustrating, as most of those caught out were not even close to the new drink-drive limit of 250 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.

She said breath alcohol readings in the 800 and 900 levels were taken at the weekend.

The pregnant woman had the highest breath alcohol reading, she said, and the third highest came from a woman with a young baby in the back seat.

Another woman on her way to pick up a child recorded a reading of 440 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.

Inspector Richardson said there will extra police on the roads in the lead up to Christmas with more checkpoints planned this week.
