A Blenheim man has been found guilty of 35 charges relating to serious sexual assaults, some dating back almost 30 years.

The 66-year-old man, who was named, preyed on vulnerable young women, grooming them, giving them drugs, raping and assaulting them.

A jury at the High Court in Nelson found him guilty of 35 charges, dating back to the 1980s.

The police paid tribute to the courage of the ten women who gave evidence, saying the mental fortitude needed to come forward and recount the offending was huge.

The man will be sentenced in February.
