Work on dangerous stretch of road

12:30 pm on 8 December 2014

Construction work to improve one of the country's most dangerous stretches of highway starts today.

Sixteen million dollars' worth of work was going into upgrading State Highway One on the Brynderwyn Hill in Northland.

It would include widening the highway, removing tight corners, installing a median rope barrier and building a new lookout.

The work would be done during the day and drivers should expect delays.

The improvements were expected to be completed in 2016.
