A multimillion-dollar blood collection service that will process all the blood collected in the South Island has opened in Christchurch.
Health Minister Jonathan Coleman officially opened the New Zealand Blood Service's $26 million dollar Blood Centre this morning in Addington.
The centre would replace the Riccarton Road facility which was no longer fit for purpose. It incorporated new technologies and has 19 donor beds compared with 10 in the old centre.
It would also provide diagnostic testing and support services to the health sector, and skin and bone banking services.
