3:17 pm on 7 November 2014

Power has been restored to almost 3000 homes in Dunedin, after a small underground electrical explosion knocked it out.

Police said emergency services were called to Kaikorai Valley Road just before 1pm after the explosion blew the cover off a manhole.

Power lines operator Delta said initial assessments showed a fault occurred on a high voltage underground cable on Kaikorai Valley Road.

Power was now back on in Kaikorai Valley, Brockville, Roslyn and Mornington.
