5:28 pm on 6 November 2014

The Waimakariri District Council is to spend more than $2.5 million on an urgent flood prevention plan in Canterbury.

Heavy rain in June this year resulted in widespread flooding in five areas.

The council has agreed to spend $2.54 million this year on top of $1.65 million on drainage already under way.

As well, the council is to consider as part of its plan for the 10 years from next year another $17.3 million in drainage and flood protection works.
