Teens plead not guilty to murder

12:41 pm on 6 November 2014

Two teenagers charged with the murder of a man Michael Griffin have pleaded not guilty in the High Court this morning.

The pair chose trial by jury and they were granted continued name suppression.

Mr Griffin was found unconscious with serious head injuries at his Whangarei home early last month, and died shortly afterwards.

One of the defendants is in the custody of Child, Youth and Family because he was under 17 when he was arrested.

The other, who was 17 at the time, was remanded in prison.

Both will appear in court again in two weeks for a hearing on name suppression and bail.
