5:04 pm on 29 October 2014

A gas leak which disrupted traffic and led to people being evacuated from central Christchurch buildings this afternoon has been fixed, police say.

A police spokesperson said emergency services were alerted to a ruptured gas pipe at the intersection of Barbadoes Street and Moorhouse Avenue about 1pm.

Cordons were established, shutting down several major traffic routes, and nearby buildings were evacuated, the spokesperson said.

The leak had been fixed and all cordons removed.
