A young girl has been attacked by a pitbull terrier in Auckland.
St John Ambulance said staff were called to a home in Panmure on Wednesday evening.
The girl, 4, was bitten through her nose and into her mouth.
She was taken to Starship Hospital where she is receiving treatment for moderate injuries.
Auckland Council said the pitbull, which is 11 months old, has been impounded.
It said it is registered and has had no issues with aggression in the past but will be put down later this week.
