Police say a 12-year-old girl escaped an attempted abduction in a Hamilton suburb on Tuesday night.
The girl was walking along Amethyst Avenue in the suburb of Chartwell just before 6pm when a man grabbed her and pulled her into his car, police say. She got away when he went around to the driver's side door.
The man is described as Pakeha, between 45 and 50 years old, and of medium build. The four-door car was dark blue, with dents to its rear.
Police are warning parents and caregivers to be vigilant, and are appealing for any sightings of suspicious behaviour.
