Police have arrested two men on burglary charges after 400 stolen avocados were found in a Whangarei garage.
A car police believe was used to sell the stolen avocados at markets in Auckland was also seized.
Police said the men, aged 18 and 41, had been stealing avocados from several orchards in the Whangarei area.
They are investigating how many orchards have been targeted by the pair.
Officers say they were tipped off by a member of the public, who had read about the recent burglaries and thought the men selling avocados from the boot of a car were suspicious.
Police said it was a perfect example of the public to helping to prevent and solve crime.
