Man pleads not guilty to baby murder

1:14 pm on 20 August 2014

In brief: A man has denied murdering a five month-old baby girl in Pukekohe and will face a three week trial next year.

The man appeared in the High Court in Auckland today where his name suppression was continued by Justice Lang.

The judge said naming the man would cause extreme hardship to his family.

The 25-year-old wiped tears away and stood with his head bowed for much of the appearance. He has been remanded in custody.

Police say a post-mortem examination has shown the baby suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg.
