A male pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car on State Highway 3, near Palmerston North, police say.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said the incident happened near the intersection of Newbury Line about 5.55am.
Police said the man died at the scene, while the sole occupant of the car was shaken but not hurt.
The road was closed most of the morning but has reopend.
