A man accused of an arson attack on a storage facility has appeared in the Wellington District Court.

The 34-year-old, who has name suppression, is charged with starting the blaze at Kiwi Self Storage in April this year in which hundreds of storage lockers were damaged, destroying property including Academy Awards, family heirlooms and documents.

Judge Pat Grace on Thursday remanded the man in custody until a pre-trial callover on 16 September.

He is due in the district court on 28 July regarding his name suppression and two charges of assaulting a prison guard.
