Urewera apology to get mixed reaction

3:12 pm on 17 July 2014

Police Commissioner Mike Bush's personal apologies to eight families for errors during the Urewera raids may not be accepted by everyone, Tuhoe leader Tamati Kruger says.

An Independent Police Conduct Authority report found that the armed raids and roadblocks in 2007 were unlawful and unreasonable.

Mr Bush is expected to spend two days visiting families at the end of this month, before a public apology is made.

But Kruger said while he expected some families to embrace the opportunity, others would not be so keen.

"Some families may accept the apology and thank the commissioner very much and then move on.

"Others will probably or possibly reject the apology and say that they could never get over it."
