The Desert Road in the central North Island has reopened after snow closed it on Thursday morning.
The Transport Agency says motorists should be careful as winter driving conditions prevail.
In the South Island, the inland Kaikoura Road remains closed due to snow.
It is expected to reopen on Thursday evening, but further closures may be needed in the event of heavy rain or slips.
Caution is advised on some Southland and Central Otago roads, including the Lindis Pass and around Raes Junction.
