Search for hunter scaled back

10:04 am on 2 July 2014

The search for a hunter missing south of Hokitika has been scaled back.

Corey Aaron Stephens, 35, set out from Hari Hari, south of Hokitika on 24 June and was expected to return last Friday from a week long hunting trip in the Wanganui River area.

The search so far has only found two of Mr Stephens personal items, including a distinctive hat.

Several land search and rescue teams have scoured the valley and a swift water rescue team had also been on the main Wanganui River.

The search will now focus on the lower stretches of the river.

Mr Stephens had hired a personal locator beacon which has not been activated.

Four teams were involved in the search, including police, a search and rescue helicopter and a white water kayak rescue team.
