A baby is dead after a four-wheel-drive ran off the road near Opotiki on Sunday.
Police say the vehicle ended upside down in a drain about about 6am.
The other occupants were not injured.
Police say they believe all the occupants were wearing seatbelts and they have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
