Mt Hutt skifield has opened its season with sunny skies and little wind.
The opening was delayed when with most of the skifield's man-made snow was blown away by high winds last week, leaving most of the mountain down to gravel.
Ski area manager James McKenzie said 40cm of fresh snow had fallen this week, and all but two of the chairlifts were operating.
Coronet Peak in Queenstown was the first skifield to open, starting the season last Saturday, while the Remarkables is due to open on 21 June.
