10:17 pm on 9 June 2014

Police are investigating a violent home invasion in Northland at the weekend.

Five people wearing balaclavas and carrying weapons, including a gun, entered the Tinopai house about 5.30pm on Saturday.

Three adults and two teenage boys were home.

Police said the occupants were assaulted, but one of them managed to escape and ran to a neighbour for help.

The offenders left in a car, which may have been a blue Toyota Corolla.

The occupants were treated at Whangarei Hospital and suffered minor to moderate injuries.
