Police drop Canterbury rugby rape case

1:45 pm on 4 June 2014

There is not enough evidence to charge South Canterbury rugby players accused of rape, police say

Rape allegations were levelled against some members of the team that were in Whanganui last September. The allegations were brought by a young woman.

Detective senior sergeant Neil Forlong said Crown Law has advised them there is insufficient evidence to put charges before the courts.

He said 30 people were interviewed during the investigation and police remain dedicated to thoroughly investigating all complaints reported to them.
