Fire at Tamaki factory

A blaze at an Auckland pharmaceuticals factory was believed to have been started by an electrical fault.

The fire at GMP Pharmaceuticals Limited, in Averton Place, Tamaki, started just after 6pm on Sunday.

Senior station officer Dave McKeown said 16 crews were called in case the blaze had involved chemicals, but the fire was contained to one room and put out.

He said they were alerted by a fire alarm in the building, which saved the whole factory.

The Fire Service believes an electrical fault probably sparked the fire though it is continuing to investigate the cause.
