Two men are to appear in a Bay of Plenty court on Friday after an assault at a suspected methamphetamine lab.
Police were called to what was initially thought to be an arson at a rural property near Thornton, just outside Whakatane on Wednesday.
But in the early hours of Thursday morning a person who was securing the property was assaulted.
Two local men, aged 32 and 30, will appear in the Whakatane District Court on Friday charged with aggravated robbery.
Police and fire safety investigators have also now found evidence which suggests the house was used for making methamphetamine, also known as "P".
