The Christchurch City Council has again deferred making a decision on the future of the Ellerslie International Flower Show.

The Ellerslie International Flower Show at North Hagley Park features more than 80 horticultural exhibits.

The council was presented with a report earlier this month which revealed this year's show ran at a $516,000 loss.

Councillors have discussed it twice since then and are setting up a sub-committee to negotiate with Flower Show Management Limited, the management company for the show.

Councillor Tim Scandrett said they would negotiate a solution which was acceptable to both parties.

The annual show moved from Auckland to Christchurch in 2007 at a cost of $3 million to ratepayers.
