The bodies of Farhat Rana Malik and her adult daughter Sidra Noor Malik were found stabbed to death at a house in Ranui, West Auckland, on Monday.

A close friend of the family said Mrs Malik's husband, who is accused of killing them, had a protection order in place against him.

Auckland barrister Catriona MacLennan said protection orders are only the start of the process.

She told Morning Report women and children are not getting full support to go a safe place where they can stay away from the perpetrator.

Ms MacLennan also said domestic violence protection measures have just been removed from the law under recent changes to the Family Court.
