Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says the company which wrote a report on Christchurch City Council's finances has admitted some inaccurate data were used in reaching a $534 million budget shortfall.

The council released the KordaMentha report last week.

At the time, Mr Brownlee, said he had concerns about the accuracy of some of the data.

He now says there has been an admission not all of the data used was accurate.

Mr Brownlee has also asked for an independent assessment of the council's financial position, which is expected this month.

Christchurch City Council said it has no comment to make on Mr Brownlee's statement.
