Bayfield School to remain closed

7:00 am on 11 May 2014

A primary school in Auckland will remain closed this week because of an asbestos scare.

Bayfield School in the inner-city suburb of Herne Bay has been closed since Thursday because parents were concerned asbestos dust had spread from a demolition site on the grounds.

Although the latest tests came back clear, the board of trustees has decided to complete the demolition before the pupils are allowed back.

Chair David McPherson said they will attend Ponsonby Primary before being allowed back into the Bayfield School grounds on Monday week at the earliest.

The Ministry of Education and WorkSafe will investigate how the demolition has been handled.
