Police in Hamilton are seeking witnesses to an attack on a female jogger on Wednesday.

The attack occurred just after 7pm, on Grantham Street, between the Ferrybank Cafe and the Bridgewater Eye Clinic.

The police said the woman was jogging down Grantham Street alone when a van blocked her path and one of the occupants attacked her.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Mortimore said the woman was able to break free and ran toward the boat ramp carpark.

He said police want to hear from anyone in the area at the time, including a man who assisted the woman in the boat ramp carpark.

He said the person wasn't a suspect but is key to assisting the enquiry.
