Emergency phone wanted at 90 Mile Beach

A coroner has recommended setting up signs and an emergency phone where a man drowned on 90 Mile Beach in 2010.

Ieremia Galuvao, 40, died when he was swept out to sea while swimming at the beach with one of his sons.

Coroner Brandt Shortland said there were no safety signs at the beach and endorsed a plan by surf lifesavers intended to prevent future drownings.

That includes setting up signs at beach entrances, putting an emergency phone at the beach and distributing safety information to campsites, motels and tourism businesses.
