Measles alert in Rotorua

8:01 pm on 24 April 2014

About 40 people who ate at a Rotorua restaurant over Easter will be contacted by health officials over a measles alert.

Medical officer of health Phil Shoemack says people may have been exposed to measles if they visited the Skyline Gondola ride or restaurant between 11am and about 2pm Saturday 19 April, or the Devonwood Motel from 4pm on Friday 18 April to 10am Saturday 19 April.

He says those who sat close to the person in question at the restaurant were most at risk and will be contacted by health authorities.

Symptoms of measles include a high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash beginning on the face and neck.
