Armed robbery at service station

5:51 am on 24 April 2014

Police are seeking two people they say smashed their way into a service station and robbed the till.

The hold-up happened at about 1.30am on Wednesday at the Mobil station on the Mount Wellington highway in south Auckland.

Police said two staff retreated to a back office as the robbers smashed a glass panel in the front doors to get inside, fired a shotgun and took the till drawer and tobacco products.

Shortly after, a stolen white Nissan Skyline was found parked in New Brighton Road, less than 1km from the scene, with the engine still running.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Pizzini said police are looking into similar robberies around Auckland to see whether there is a link.

He said the latest robbery is worrying, because not only did the men take a loaded shotgun with them, they were clearly prepared to use it.
