A woman has been kidnapped and assaulted several times while being driven from Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsula.
Police want to speak to 23-year-old Brett Makiri in relation to the incident on Sunday evening.
Police say the 29-year-old was picked up by a man in the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes on the pretence they would be going to visit an associate in a nearby suburb.
But the man drove to the Coromandel Peninsula, keeping the woman in the vehicle for two to three hours and assaulting her repeatedly.
Police say the woman managed to escape when the vehicle ran out of petrol near the Coromandel township. She ran to a house and the owners kept her safe until police arrived.
