Wellington assault sexually motivated

4:22 pm on 19 April 2014

An assault on a young woman in Wellington early on Saturday is thought to have been sexually motivated.

The woman was walking home at 1.55am when she was attacked by a man while walking up from The Terrace to the Boyd Wilson sportsfield overlooked by Victoria University student accommodation blocks.

She screamed and struggled and the man ran off.

Police say the area is isolated, dark and surrounded by bushes and trees and the attacker was clearly waiting for women to walk through it alone.

They have increased patrols in the area, which they describe as too unsafe for students to walk through at night.

The man is described as a 25 to 30 year-old Pakeha, 180 centimetres tall, with light-coloured facial hair.
