Residents on the Acheron water supply in the Selwyn district are being advised to begin boiling water due to bad weather.
The water is not as clear as usual, and the Selwyn District Council says it cannot guarantee that the water is safe to drink, although no E.coli has been detected, as yet.
The warning is expected to be in place for several days.
