Police say it will take several days before they have a clear picture of the circumstances surrounding the death of a child found injured on the driveway of her home in Massey in west Auckland.
Mila Tamihana, who was 18 months old, was found by family members, who rushed her to the emergency department at Waitakere Hospital just after midday on Thursday, where she died.
Detective Sergeant Eugene Pickett said officers are speaking to family members and neighbours as they work to find out how the girl was injured, but at this stage, details about the driver or vehicle involved are unknown.
The Waitemata Serious Crash Unit is assisting in the scene examination.
