The Ruapehu District Council has lifted a warning to residents of Taumaraunui and nearby Manunui to boil their water.
The council issued a precautionary warning was issued last week after faulty filters were found at the Matapuna water treatment plant.
The threat of Cyclone Lusi prompted the decision to remove the filters so the reservoirs could fill before the bad weather hit.
Council environmental manager Anne-Marie Westcott said testing showed enough chlorine was in the water for it to be safe to drink.
More warnings were possible, because replacement filters could take time to arrive from overseas.
