Part of State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Ranges is closed after a crash near the summit.
Emergency services are working to clear a diesel spill from the collision.
Police say the road is expected to remain closed until at least 8pm on Sunday.
They say there are lengthy detours through Waihi or Rotorua.
