Police have named a man who died after being hit by a truck on State Highway 3 near Turakina on Monday night. He was Anthony Shramka, 27, from Whanganui.
Police said truck driver and other witnesses gave first aid to the man, but he died a short time later at the scene. The driver was uninjured but shaken.
Officers have spoken to the driver and want to talk to anyone who saw Mr Shramka hitchhiking about 9.30pm.
The Serious Crash Unit and police are investigating.
