The Fire Service says quick thinking by a Picton homeowner with a garden hose prevented a house being damaged after a boat next to it was set on fire early Sunday morning.
A second boat and a campervan were also set on fire around the same time on Wairau Road, which is part of State Highway 1.
All three have been extensively damaged.
The Fire Service says the owners of the first boat acted quickly to douse the side of the house with water while they waited for firefighters, stopping the house from catching fire.
