Container mall to get new home

9:52 am on 7 March 2014

The man who initiated the popular Re-start container mall in Christchurch says most of the tenants are intending to stay on when it is relocated to a prime inner city spot.

The mall must be moved to make way for new projects in Cashel Mall, although it will remain in the central city, where it is one of the few CBD retail areas.

A Christchurch city councillor who is part of the business group behind the container mall, Paul Lonsdale, told told Radio New Zealand's Morning Report programme it will be reassembled opposite Antony Gough's big development on Oxford Terrace.

He says it will face the river, and have a good connectivity with other inner city developments, so "it's actually a really nice spot".

Mr Lonsdale says the mall was designed so that it could eventually be moved.

The mall has been in Cashel Street for a year.
