A person has been hit by a train at a level crossing in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast north of Wellington.
The rail company Tranz Metro says the person was hit at an intersection where the crossing has barrier arms and bells. It's understood the person is in a stable condition in hospital with minor injuries.
Some services heading north out of Wellington have had to be cancelled and TranzMetro says it's not known when normal service will resume.
