A fun day in Christchurch has been cancelled because harmful levels of E.coli bacteria were found in the water to be used for it.
The Water Blast event was scheduled for Saturday at the South New Brighton entrance to the Avon-Heathcote estuary.
The Christchurch City Council's recreation and sports unit manager, John Filsell, says the council doesn't want to put anyone at risk so the event was cancelled.
Mr Filsell says the Canterbury Regional Council is addressing the issue.
