Met Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of the South Island.
It says scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop in North Otago, the Canterbury Plains and Christchurch on Sunday afternoon.
And it warns some of these storms are likely to be severe with large damaging hail, strong squally winds, and heavy rain.
Met Service says the thunderstorms should clear by early Sunday evening.
